Finally, Sapulpa is getting an authentic Italian restaurant again.
Roma Italian Ristoranté, located at 115 N Mission Street, is officially opening to the public next week, according to employees at the restaurant—but people have been showing up for dinner since Wednesday. Opening for lunch and dinner, Roma offers authentic Italian food made with fresh ingredients.
With respect to the many pizzerias in Sapulpa, the town has been missing an Italian restaurant for a number of years—it’s no doubt been near the top of many wish lists for restaurants. With Roma, that wish is granted in spades.
We were invited to attend a soft opening this week and though the restaurant has some kinks to work out regarding service times (to be expected with a brand new restaurant), the demeanor of the wait staff was great, and the food was spectacular.
I had a Pasta Sampler ($12.95), and those with me had Manicotti ($11.95), Chicken Marsala ($15.95), and a more traditional Spaghetti and Meatballs ($11.95). All the portions were adequate, and if you’re going for an easy fix, like spaghetti, you’ll likely find it more than adequate.
The pricing is in keeping with what you’d expect from a traditional Italian restaurant in Tulsa, leaning just a bit more towards “date night” than “family night,” however, they also carry a children’s menu with a number of options under $8.00, so taking the kids is certainly an option.
The restaurant, located on North Mission Street in the old Sapulpa Café location, sat closed for months before it caught the attention of Mr. Florin, the proprietor and head chef for Roma Italian Ristoranté.
Plagued with negative reviews regarding cleanliness, Sapulpa Café quietly closed without much noise sometime in the last few years. Thankfully, the current restaurant has fixed those problems. The tables are set with black tablecloths, cloth napkins with silverware, and the lighting in the restaurant gives a calm, romantic atmosphere. About the only blemish we could find cosmetically is the worn carpet—everything else was on par.
The restaurant should receive a warm welcome, judging by the notoriety it has already received on social media, as word began to spread that a new Italian restaurant was coming. We think it’s well worth trying; we’ll definitely be back!
