Sapulpa Parks welcomes new Director, Aquatics Supervisor, still hiring for maintenance crew

A tumultuous start to the spring and summer season has brought a few challenges to the City’s Parks and Recreation Department, after the abrupt departure of both Director Jody Baker and two separate Aquatics Supervisors since the start of the season. Thankfully, it looks like some of those situations are getting worked out. The Sapulpa Parks Department has announced the hiring of its new Director of Parks and Recreation, Mr. Carson Lynch, according to a statement from Recreation Leader Susan Bencke.

Lynch comes from Moore, Oklahoma, where he served seven years as Assistant Director and thirteen years as Director, and is a Past President of the Oklahoma Recreation and Parks Society. Sapulpa City Manager Joan Riley says she’s confident of Lynch’s abilities and says he has what it takes to move the parks and recreation team forward in Sapulpa. “His years of experience with maintenance of park systems, sports complexes, and oversight of large construction projects will be a great asset to our park system,” she said. Lynch’s first day is Monday, July 19th.

Also joining the Parks team is Destinie Slinkard, who was previously a part of the City’s water department, and now becomes the third Aquatics Supervisor, after two unexpected staff transitions earlier this summer. Initially from Arkansas, Slinkard moved to Oklahoma in 2017 and relocated to the Sapulpa area one year ago with her family. She is excited to improve your experience at the Aquatic Center and looks forward to bringing back swim lessons and other fun activities and events in 2022.

Sapulpa Park’s maintenance crew also has three full-time positions available for those seeking a physical, outdoor position. The six-person crew maintains over 400 acres at nine parks, two lakes, a pool/aquatic center, senior center, recreation center, and two sports complexes. Daily tasks include mowing, weed eating, facility repairs, and assisting with special events. Visit for more information or to apply for these positions.
