About the Sapulpa Herald
The Sapulpa Herald is Creek County’s longest-standing and most trusted source of news and information. Since its inception on September 14, 1914, the Sapulpa Herald has been dedicated to serving the communities of Sapulpa, Kellyville, Kiefer, and other regions of Creek County with timely and reliable reporting.
Our Rich Heritage
Founded by John W. Young and O.S. Todd, the Sapulpa Herald has a storied history that dates back to over a century ago. Over the years, the newspaper has played a pivotal role in chronicling the growth, changes, and milestones of our local communities.
In 1944, R. P. Matthews assumed ownership of the Herald, propelling it forward as one of the primary sources of news in the city. Under his leadership, the Herald merged with the Sapulpa Evening Light, enhancing its reach and impact. As the decades passed, the Herald transitioned through various hands, becoming an integral part of the fabric of Creek County.
In 1959, Ed Livermore took the reins of the Sapulpa Herald, carrying on its legacy of delivering reliable news coverage to our readers. The subsequent ownership changes in 1979, when Roy H. Park assumed control, and later in 1997 when the newspaper became part of Community Newspaper Holdings, further strengthened the Herald’s commitment to serving the community.
In 2007, the Sumner family acquired the Sapulpa Herald, ushering in a new era while upholding the values of quality journalism and community engagement that have been the hallmark of our publication.

Throughout its history, the Sapulpa Herald has remained dedicated to its mission of providing accurate, relevant, and timely news to our readers.
